THE EVENT MahoganyBooks welcomes DC resident, social justice advocate, and author Christine Platt for a Meet & Greet book signing showcasing her Ana & Andrew children's book series. "A believer in the power of storytelling as a tool for social change, Christine’s work centers on teaching diversity, equity, and inclusion through culturally-responsive literature for people of all ages." Platt's series spans four books featuring characters "Ana & Andrew [who] are always on an adventure! They live in Washington, DC with their parents, but with family in Savannah, Georgia and Trinidad, there’s always something exciting and new to learn about African American history and culture. This series includes A Day at the Museum, Dancing at Carnival, Summer in Savannah, and A Snowy Day." Each book is also aligned to Common Core standards, as well as, correlated to state standards. Join us at MahoganyBooks on October 12, 2019 from 2 PM - 4 PM for a family-friendly event, featuring Christine Platt and her incredible Ana & Andrew book series. Stop by and pick-up a copy your young reader(s) and be sure to get it autographed. See you then! THE BOOKS A Day at the Museum  Ana and Andrew are excited when Grandma comes to stay. During her visit, the family tours the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture and learns about important African American achievements. Dancing at the CarnivalDuring Carnival, Ana & Andrew travel to visit their family on the island of Trinidad. They love watching the parade and dancing to the music. This year, they learn how their ancestors helped create the holiday! Summer in SavannahIt's summertime! Ana & Andrew travel to visit their grandparents in Savannah, Georgia. While they are there, they learn Grandma and Grandpa's church was built by slaves. With some help from an unusual source! A Snowy DaySchool is canceled! Ana and Andrew play in the snow with their neighbors and learn to make snow ice cream. They save a snowball in the freezer for their cousins in Trinidad who have never seen snow. THE AUTHOR Christine Platt is a passionate advocate for social justice and policy reform. She holds a B.A. in Africana Studies from the University of South Florida, M.A. in African and African American Studies from The Ohio State University, and J.D. from Stetson University College of Law. Christine currently serves as a Race, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (REDI) Expert for non-profit and for-profit organizations. She formerly served as the Managing Director of the Antiracist Research & Policy Center at American University. A believer in the power of storytelling as a tool for social change, Christine’s work centers on teaching diversity, equity, and inclusion through culturally-responsive literature for people of all ages.
